Our club is always on the lookout for ways to raise money to support the Bruce Trail Conservancy's mission of securing a conservation corridor along the Niagara Escarpment. We also need to raise funds to support our own ongoing trail maintenance projects. Incredibly, our club's annual operating budget has exceeded $20,000 per year for the last several years, so fundraising is a constant necessity. In the past we have had great success with our annual Christmas tree sales, raising approximately $10,000 so far. We have also organized a cook book sale, run Hike-a-thons and organized group outings with a portion of the sales going to support our endeavours. We will look at any opportunity to fundraise, so if you have any great ideas please send us an email info@caledonbrucetrail.org

On August 18, 2011, CHBTC held a fundraising event, a play at the Hillsburgh Century Church Theatre. The fundraising committee of Janice McClelland, Diane McKenzie and Dave Platt worked very hard and here is Janice's report. Our hike/dinner/play summer fundraiser for the BTC was a definite success. We sold 72 tickets for the play! With the 72 tickets and a $50 donation from a member who could not attend, Jean Kerins was able to present the Bruce Trail Conservancy with a cheque for $1130 from the Caledon Hills Bruce Trail Club! Marlene Crew won the book, Dufferin County , that was donated by author and CHBTC Trail Captain, Nicola Ross. Diane McKenzie presented Louise Carberry with a Bruce Trail hat for motivating the most ticket sales. In addition to the people who attended the play, approximately 55 people went for dinner at the Duke of Hillsburgh and there were 40 people who enjoyed the walk, amidst the wildflowers, (despite the hot weather!) The following organizations and people helped us promote the event – Nancy Early, David Lamb, the Guelph Hiking Club, the Belfountain Community Association, the Upper Credit Field Naturalists and the Alton Grange Association. Thank-you to all of the above, and to the staff of the Century Church Theater and the staff at the Duke of Hillsburgh who cooked and served efficiently when 55 people descended on them! I know that there were some people who came down from their cottages to attend this event so this may be an appropriate time to thank your friends who supported this event – it was indeed a success with a warm, friendly time had by all and producing a significant financial contribution to the Bruce Trail Conservancy |
