Although the weather did not cooperate, Bruce Trail Day 2011 was well attended by club volunteers who showed off the trails of Forks of the Credit Park including the Bruce Trail’s main trail and side trails to many hardy and intrepid hikers. There were several families with children and there was a group of cubs out for the day. Several old faces dropped by to visit and many new members or would-be members came for the hikes or stopped by for information. With the help of Jennifer from Party Safari (www.partysafari.ca ) , the children and many of the adults learned about exotic animals, who were kept warm by a portable heater. The hikers and volunteers were heated and re-fuelled through the efforts of Greg and his son manning the barbeque and food table. Leslie and Irmgard took care of distributing various free printed materials and selling BTC merchandise. Aspiring members were encouraged to join through the Keen website which was offering a half price deal. We hope many took advantage of this offer. Several volunteers managed the parking area and hike leaders and their sweeps led frequent and varied hikes. While the turnout was low, the quality of experience was high and I’m sure that most, if not all, were happy that they had braved the elements and come out to embrace the day.
