Bob Owen, MNR Park Superintendent Moves On

The Buck Stops Here!

That is how I have come to feel about the Bruce Trail's working relationship with MNR's Park Superintendent Bob Owen and his management style. If our club ever needed approvals, assistance or advice regarding trails in our local provincial parks, we always knew that Bob's support would be there and that it would be there right from the beginning of a project.

This winter we received the news that Bob has been promoted and is moving on to Wasaga Beach Provincial Park

Starting in 1989 as Assistant Superintendent, Bob became a key partner for trail maintenance and development in the Caledon and Dufferin HiLands sections.

His jurisdiction included the Boyne Valley PP, Mono Cliffs PP, Hockley Valley PNR and the Forks of the Credit PP in addition to Earl Rowe PP where his office was located.

As the population of Mulmur, Mono and Caledon grows, balancing and protecting park resources with increasing use by the public becomes more important and challenging each year.

The most pleasant and important part of the job for Bob was dealing with the special interest groups, town councils and officials. I have been told that he really enjoyed working with the Bruce Trail Conservancy and enjoyed all the projects on which we were able to work together.

I think I can speak for many people in the Caledon and Dufferin HiLands clubs when I say, Bob we enjoyed working with you . I spoke with Laurence Christie and Ralph Tremills, senior trail builders from our clubs and each have fond memories of working with Bob . Laurence felt honoured by the great faith you displayed in the quality of our club's workmanship. Ralph reminisced about your easy-going manner that made working in the parks enjoyable. I will never forget your on-going support during the Ring Kiln Side Trail development.

Bob's position is being filled by Keith Early who has spent the last 2 years as Park Superintendent at Port Burwell Provincial Park. He is however, no stranger to our Escarpment parks because he held the position of Assistant Park Superintendent for 6 years before leaving for Port Burwell.

Bob, we wish you the all the best in Wasaga Beach, it was a pleasure to have met and worked with you .
