Thank You Jim and Anne Wilson

On Saturday June 14 th, a group of hikers and I had the honour of recognizing another long time Bruce Trail private landowner, Jim & Anne Wilson. Jim & Anne have welcomed the Trail on their 5 th Sideroad of Mono property for the last 12 years. President, Janice McClelland thanked them for their contribution to the wonderful trails that we have in Mono. Permission from private landowners such as the Wilson’s has become the backbone the Bruce Trail system. Dedicated Trail volunteer and neighbour, Dave Moule also joined our group and fondly reminisced about meeting the Wilson’s for the first time years ago, sharing each other’s properties for skiing and snow shoeing and forming a personal friendship with each other’s families over the years. It was Dave who asked Jim & Anne, 12 years ago, if they would consider allowing the Trail to cross onto their property. We are very fortunate that their answer was yes.

This year the trail location on their property changed a little bit because of the Caledon Club’s new 7 th Line reroute. This reroute could have bypassed the Wilson property altogether but we did not want to loose such warm and supportive landowners so the trail change was designed to keep them in the loop. A new side trail was created on the old main trail and is now named Darcy’s Side Trail after Jim & Anne’s 19 year old Jack Russell Terrier who has been running the property’s trails for all of his years.

In addition to the Bruce Trail, the Wilson’s also have their own trails throughout their grounds and if you are out there hiking, you will notice their nicely mowed and maintained trail network. Infact, not only does Jim regularly mow his trails but he also mows the Bruce Trail near his house on the Tai Chi Centre’s land as well. Jim, we should have given you a trail maintenance award as well.

Once again thank you, Jim & Anne for welcoming the Bruce Trail onto your property. Your support is appreciated very much by all the hikers that you have shared your land with over the years.
